Theatre performance

The State of Genomic Care opened with a stunning live performance: What the hell happened to me?

Watch the performance from Melbourne Playback Theatre.

Over the years, we’ve seen genomics improve hundreds of lives, in a multitude of ways.

We wanted people at our summit to understand this. But how do you share the stories that matter, without asking patients to get on a stage and re-live their most difficult moments?

Video was an option. But it’s easy for people to look away from a video.

You can’t look away from live theatre, though.

So we asked Melbourne Playback Theatre to create a performance that would bring these stories to life. And they did – sharing the real words of patients and doctors, with just the right amount of artistic licence to intertwine them.

Cast: Lisa Maza, Nina Harris, Josiah Lulham, Jalen Ong, Phoebe Mason, Karen Berger (music), Lucy McCallum / Third Ray Productions (live video)

Director: Sodi Murphy-Shrives

Writers: Phoebe Mason, Alex Sangster
